About this app

The spatial variant of the iterated prisoner's dilemma is a simple yet powerful model for the problem of cooperation versus conflict in groups. The app demonstrates the spread of 'altruism' and 'exploitation for personal gain' in an interacting population of individuals learning from each other by experience.

Pretty interesting, with a small issue. Per the explanation it seems the payoff to anyone who faces a defector must always be zero, and that might make this different from a "true" prisoner's dilemma, because defecting should always be strictly better in personal gain. As it stands, the only incentive to defect against a defector is to screw them over, not to gain anything.

This has nothing to do with The Prisoner's Dilemma.
