Set up your app's prices

You can set your app as free or paid, update your app’s pricing universally or per country, and use pricing templates to simplify pricing for your apps in Play Console.

Note: After you publish an app or update, including price changes, adding SKUs, or making changes to your app’s distribution settings, it can take a few hours for your changes to be shown on Google Play.

Sub-dollar pricing expansion in 20 markets

In February 2021, we reduced the minimum price limit for products in 20 more markets across Latin America, EMEA, and APAC. You can now set lower price rates in these markets, allowing you to reach new potential buyers by adjusting your pricing to better reflect local purchasing power and demand.

Learn more about Sub-dollar pricing expansion in 20 markets in the Android Developers Blog .

  1. Open Play Console and go to the App pricing page (Products > App pricing).
  2. In the "Pricing" section, next to "Your app is," click Make your app free or Make your app paid.

Note: Users in most countries can download paid apps and make in-app purchases. To verify purchase availability, review our list of price ranges and currencies allowed by country.

Changes to your app's Free or Paid selection

  • You can change your app from paid to free.
  • Once your app has been offered for free, the app can't be changed to paid. If you want to charge for the app, you need to create a new app with a new package name and set a price.

Enter a price

When you offer paid apps, in-app products, and subscriptions on Google Play, a service fee applies.

Note: If you aren't distributing your app in a country that you enter a price for, users won’t have access to it.

Paid apps

To set up pricing for a paid app:

  1. Set up a payments profile. You'll use Play Console to specify your tax rates.
  2. Review our list of currencies and price ranges allowed by country.
  3. On the App pricing page in Play Console, enter a price.
    • We use the price you enter as the base for calculating market-specific prices. We'll convert your price to the local currency, add tax in select countries, and apply locally relevant pricing patterns and valid exchange rates for the date on which you set the price for your app. You can manually refresh the price to ensure that the local price reflects the latest exchange rate.
    • The price you enter will be used in all countries without local currency support. When a local currency isn’t supported, a price in USD or EUR is generated. Prices generated in USD or EUR are based on the price that you enter.
    • The currency used in each country is set and can’t be changed.

Use default local prices

  1. Open Play Console and go to the App pricing page (Products > App pricing).
  2. Click Set price.
  3. Review the table in the "Local prices" section. In the "Price" column, review the local prices for each country.

Use the same prices for multiple items

You can use pricing templates to set up or manage the same set of prices for multiple paid apps and in-app products. If you update a pricing template, all items linked to the template will use the template’s latest prices.

You can use up to 400 different pricing templates per developer account, and you can link up to 1,000 items to each pricing template.

Pricing template permission requirements
  • You need the Manage store presence permission for each app you want to include in a pricing template.
  • To see all apps included in a pricing template, you need the View financial data permission for each app.
  • If you can't edit a template that you created, check if someone added an app to the template you don't have permission to access.
Add items to a new pricing template
  1. Open Play Console and go to the Pricing templates page (Setup > Pricing templates).
  2. Click Create template.
  3. Name your template.
  4. Click Set price and apply the price you want to make your app available for. We'll use the price you enter as the base for calculating market-specific prices. We'll convert your price to the local currency, add tax (in select countries), and apply locally relevant pricing patterns and valid exchange rates for the date on which you set the price for your app. You can manually refresh the price to ensure that the local price reflects the latest exchange rate.
    • The price you enter will be used in all countries without local currency support.
  5. Choose whether you want to include tax in the price you entered.
    • Default price includes tax: If your default price is 9.99 EUR and you want all prices in the EU market to be 9.99 EUR (regardless of country-specific tax rates), select this checkbox to use this option.
    • By default (specifically, if you do not select Default price includes tax), tax will be added onto your price. This means we'll take your default price of 9.99 EUR and add the applicable tax per country.
  6. Review local prices and select Apply prices.
  7. Click Save.
  8. Select the Linked products tab.
  9. Using the "Link in-app products" and "Link paid app" selectors on the right-side of the pages, select an app. If you're linking in-app products, choose from the list of in-app products for that app.
  10. Select Link. When you've successfully linked an item, it will appear under the "Linked products" section.
Refresh exchange rates within a pricing template

After you've created a pricing template, you can update local prices to use today's exchange rate and country-specific pricing patterns.

  1. Open Play Console and go to the Pricing templates page (Setup > Pricing templates).
  2. In the table, select the right arrow next to the pricing template you want to update.
  3. Click Edit price.
  4. At the top-right of the "Local prices" section, click Update exchange rates.
  5. Click Apply prices.
Remove items from a pricing template
  1. Open Play Console and go to the Pricing templates page (Setup > Pricing templates).
  2. Select a template and then the Linked products tab.
  3. Next to the item you want to remove, select Unlink.

Note: You won't be able to unlink any items that are on sale. You'll need to stop the sale or wait until the sale completes before you can make any changes to the template.
