BBC iplayer works well, the shows pushed don't relate to your viewing though. My big problem with the app is the fact they keep removing support from devices and contribute to e waste by arbitrarily removing older android versions affecting TV's, tablets and phones. I can't see a technical reason for this and is very environmentally damaging forcing people to buy new devices over and over before the useful life has expired. TV's last a lot longer and support should be planned as such.

Please add ability to play videos and live TV in portrait mode, and with picture in picture. And allow the video to continue playing when you minimise the app, so you can watch PinP while using other apps, and so you can turn off the screen and the video continues to play so you can listen in headphones while walking for example. Would be useful to listen to news like that. Even better, allow audio stream of channels only to save data. Just make it work the same way youtube does basically 🙏

2024, some years since my last review and STILL the screen does not rotate. Still no option to view at a chosen bitrate (iPlayer consumes more data per minute viewed than any other streaming service) and STILL issues with broken downloads that restart from scratch rather than picking up from where they were interrupted. Like I said, it's 2024 and these basic functions should be par for the course for any streaming service, not basic functions that have yet to be fixed.

What's new

Users with their Preferred Language set to Cymraeg in System Settings will now see key parts of the app in their chosen language.
We will now automatically set your TV region, based on the information on your BBC account, and use this to give you the right local content when you go to live streams via the channel homepage or TV guide.
