I like the way this guy writes, feels succinct. his use of language and other mumbo jumbo is really nice. I am a person who personally tends towards less technically advanced writing like webnovels/wattpad. but picking up a story like this is like eating a 5-star healthy meal in a restaurant after indulging in chips and pop and other delicious junk for weeks on end. to say the least the junk in a pinch is amazing but some times you want to sit down and be wisked away by something complex and intentially currated with complexity in mind. and this hits that spot terrifically.

I just read A Supposedly fun thing i'll never do again. A short story, but a very funny page turner. This is my introduction to David Foster Wallace by recommendation by a close friend. Now i'm hooked. Never before have i read a story so detailed and well written.

A Supposedly Fun Thing.. was an attention grabber all the way through with complete sketches of characters on the m.v. Nadir, including Wallace, and full of detail about vacation cruise life. The writing is never less than expert. David Foster Wallace really knew his way around an essay.
About the author
David Foster Wallace was born in Ithaca, New York, in 1962 and raised in Illinois, where he was a regionally ranked junior tennis player. He received bachelor of arts degrees in philosophy and English from Amherst College and wrote what would become his first novel, The Broom of the System, as his senior English thesis. He received a masters of fine arts from University of Arizona in 1987 and briefly pursued graduate work in philosophy at Harvard University. His second novel, Infinite Jest, was published in 1996.
Wallace taught creative writing at Emerson College, Illinois State University, and Pomona College, and published the story collections Girl with Curious Hair, Brief Interviews with Hideous Men, Oblivion, the essay collections A Supposedly Fun Thing I'll Never Do Again, and Consider the Lobster. He was awarded the MacArthur Fellowship, a Lannan Literary Award, and a Whiting Writers' Award, and was appointed to the Usage Panel for The American Heritage Dictionary of the English Language. He died in 2008. His last novel, The Pale King, was published in 2011.
