What can I say, I was looking for guidance, for hidden truth, for a path in life, and I liked Tom Cruise. I started reading the hype about this book that the church puts out. I really dedicated myself to getting in to the church of the stars. I ordered the book and read on and on. And on and on. It makes some big claims about research and science that Hubbard apparently exhaustively conducts, but there's very little detail. It's all very vague. It's not like reading a science text book at all, but you can see how it tries to be. If you've ever read the Book of Mormon and got a sense of how it was trying too hard to sound like the Christian Bible, well Dianetics is sort of like that with science. I'm not a scientist, and the most I usually read from anything peer-reviewed is the abstract, but even within those, scientists tell you about the holes in the research, where more work is needed, how it could all be wrong. Hubbard is the polar opposite. If there's a hole, it's because you're illiterate, he says. Early on in the book he stresses that the only way you could fail to understand or agree is if you don't understand the terminology he uses, ie. makes up. Try as I might to keep on top of it, the claims and the theory did not come full circle. I was truly disappointed. But let me say, if you are not currently part of this... group called Scientology, you are more fortunate than you know. What I would learn later about this church is disturbing beyond your wildest dreams. This is the book that started it all, and to me it's something of a crime against humanity. The claims in this book, all lies, drew in innocent people that met their doom in some form of another. If you start to research it, you'll think it was just a few incidents, then a few more. But give it enough time and you might realize that this organization has left a gaping wound worldwide, something no one can begin to mend because of their tactics in keeping to out of reach.

read the brainwashers bible that enables you to blame "past trauma" on why your life and mental health is poop, and absolves you from personal responsibility for your actions. written by a man who was so scathing of anti depressent medication but was found to have high strength anti psychotic medication in his system when he died. check out the reviews written by the scientologists: they're the ones that contain more than 2 exclamation marks😏

Religion convinces you, you are ill. Then sells the cure. This is exactly what Dianetics does. It's harmful, it convinces people with mental health problems to go without proper treatment, which can be fatal in cases. John Travolta's autistic son would have likely lived if it wasn't for this book.

About the author

Author, humanitarian and Founder of Dianetics and Scientology, L. Ron Hubbard is one of the most acclaimed figures of the modern age.

In a writing career spanning more than half a century, he was both a leading light of American fiction and the author of more than 35 million words of nonfiction—the single most embracive statement on the human mind and spirit, providing the only road to total spiritual freedom.

To date, more than 250 million copies of his works are in circulation worldwide, in 71 languages. All told, those works comprise over 3,000 recorded lectures and some 5,000 writings, including nineteen New York Times bestsellers.

Accordingly, and in testament to the magnitude of his literary legacy, there are his four Guinness World Records: most published author, most translated author, the author with the most audiobook titles and the single most translated non-religious work.

Yet the essence of L. Ron Hubbard’s legacy is perhaps best expressed in his simple declaration:

“I like to help others and count it as my greatest pleasure in life to see a person free himself of the shadows which darken his days.

“These shadows look so thick to him and weigh him down so that when he finds they are shadows and that he can see through them, walk through them and be again in the sun, he is enormously delighted. And I am afraid I am just as delighted as he is.”
