About this ebook

NATIONAL BESTSELLER • The author of Are you There God? It’s Me, Margaret returns with an adult novel that takes us back to the 1950s and introduces us to the town where she herself grew up, where a community is left reeling after a real-life tragedy when a series of airplanes fell out of the sky.

“Makes us feel the pure shock and wonder of living.... Judy Blume isn’t just revered, she’s revolutionary.” —The New York Times Book Review

“No one captures coming-of-age milestones…like Blume.” —The Boston Globe

Here she imagines and weaves together a vivid portrait of three generations of families, friends, and strangers, whose lives are profoundly changed during one winter. At the center of an extraordinary cast of characters are fifteen-year-old Miri Ammerman and her spirited single mother, Rusty. Their warm and resonant stories are set against the backdrop of an extraordinary real-world tragedy.

Gripping, authentic, and unforgettable, In the Unlikely Event has all the hallmarks of this renowned author’s deft narrative magic.

I enjoyed this novel, i appreciated the context and the tragety and felt it was comparitive to how people felt after 9/11. That feeling of things not being the same. And in true Blume fashion she makes it so relateable and timeless. This read is for someone who likes stories with multiple viewpoints rather than from only one main character as well as a strong female lead.

Stories about plane crashes will probably always be disturbing for me (for most of us? ). I think I might have enjoyed it more if it hadn't made me so darn uncomfortable. But it is reassuring to know that while Elizabeth experienced something like the catastrophes in this book, it was a long time ago, the characters survived. Speaking of the characters, Ms. Blume did a nice job of depicting the nostalgic ecohes of our past selves in the 35 years later chapter.

The plane crashes in this book were quite disturbing to me. Especially if one has a slight fear of flying like myself. But, this book was all Blume....familiar writing in the friendships, love, and family ties displayed in this story. I really enjoyed it as I do all her books.
