About this ebook

#1 NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • A powerful, blazingly honest memoir: the story of an eleven-hundred-mile solo hike that broke down a young woman reeling from catastrophe—and built her back up again.

At twenty-two, Cheryl Strayed thought she had lost everything. In the wake of her mother’s death, her family scattered and her own marriage was soon destroyed. Four years later, with nothing more to lose, she made the most impulsive decision of her life. With no experience or training, driven only by blind will, she would hike more than a thousand miles of the Pacific Crest Trail from the Mojave Desert through California and Oregon to Washington State—and she would do it alone.

Told with suspense and style, sparkling with warmth and humor, Wild powerfully captures the terrors and pleasures of one young woman forging ahead against all odds on a journey that maddened, strengthened, and ultimately healed her.

Totally gripping. Her vocabulary and word play is very good. She writes incredible vivid and so honest. It made me laugh, tear up and shocked me (I skipped one part) and that hasn't happened for a long time (though I read quite much). It has a huge pull to read on and also, something not many writers do: she kept the end in the same style, not in a hurry to rush the story. A traveler myself, I know exactly what she went through and Cheryl was truly one of a kind!!

I really did not think I would like this book, but I could not put it down. The way she intertwines her journey on the trail to her journey before the trail is phenomenal. It helped me work through my own grief a little too. It is now one of my favorite books.

I thought the overall plot of the book was pretty intriguing however I was disappointed with the author as a heroine. I found her a bit unlikeable, narcissistic/egotistical, and self-pitying. I wanted so badly to cheer her on in her journey but I found myself rolling my eyes at a lot of her verbiage and dialogue. In the end I did finish the book to find out the ending so I suppose it wasn't terrible but I was definitely left lacking.
