An excellent read. These men are more than hero's, words cannot describe my gratitude for their service. The individual stories of life and death aboard these vessels is very compelling and leaves me nothing short of humble. Thank you Mr. Hornfischer for bringing these stories to life once more. I'm young and I think that this is a great read its out standing bravery and honor in this book really shows me what letye gulf was like so this book can be read by all ages deserves 5 stars

This is a real battle that was fought but if you like that then look up dogfights ep 7 s1 you will love it
About the author
James D. Hornfischer was a writer, literary agent, and book editor. He was the author of the New York Times bestsellers Neptune’s Inferno, The Last Stand of the Tin Can Soldiers, Ship of Ghosts, and The Fleet at Flood Tide, all widely acclaimed accounts of the U.S. Navy in the Pacific during World War II, as well as the upcoming Who Can Hold the Sea. His books have received numerous awards, including the Samuel Eliot Morison Award for Distinguished Service and the Naval Historical Foundation Distinguished Service Award. James D. Hornfischer died in 2021.
