A Wish a Day for a Week by Amartya Sen is probably a book that some of you are already familiar with. It is actually a lecture delivered by Sen at the Jaipur Literature Festival 2014. The essay, though short, is quite relevant and interesting in a way that in this essay of 15-20 pages, Sen in humorous conversation with the Goddess of Medium Thing delineates the changes that Indian society needs without even once taking a severe didactic stance.

What makes this book a great read is that the same contemporary issues are made to look new with a very refined and new style of writting. The topics, problems are known to one and all, but the writting style makes it an excellent read.

About the author
AMARYTA SEN is Thomas W. Lamont University Professor, Professor of Philosophy and Professor of Economics, at Harvard University. He won the Nobel Prize in Economics in 1998 and was Master of Trinity College, Cambridge, 1998–2004. His many books include Choice, Welfare and Measurement; On Economic Inequality; Development as Freedom; Rationality and Freedom; The Argumentative Indian; Identity and Violence; The Idea of Justice; and An Uncertain Glory.
