Catching Fire (Hunger Games, Book Two)

Loved the first book.. can't help but thinking after completion of this book it can't be anything other then a money grab.. this story could have been epic if they made one book maybe 500 pages and take out 80% of the filler.. I won't even read the 3rd book just read a cliff notes online and wait for the movie.. shame really after such a great first offering.. this book is 90% filler and thoughts in catnips head smh

If you are a fan of manga like me, you will find this series a complete rip off of Battle Royale. Only slight differences. Yes this has kids fighting to the death. Yes they are stuck in one area. Yes the have different weapons and reasons to fight. All the same with Battle Royale! Except the kids are chosen from one 9th grade class and are thrown on an island to kill each other, for the amusement of the world. Some of the kids' parents willingly gave permission for the kids to go. While some are either killed or raped, or many other horrible things. The main character tries to unite the kids to fight back against the system and deny them a show. While one character goes on a killing spree, just to prove hes better than everyone! So drop this crap and start looking for Battle Royale!!!!

Ok I know that this book was written for a younger audiance, think Harry Potter, or Twilight. All build up, and no satisfaction. In fact, now that I think about it teens might be a little frustrated with this book as well. I admit, I didn't read the first book, but watched the movie so I was curious. I read this book in about 3 days, at times getting caught up in the action. Just about the time the book started to heat up, it's like someone threw a bucket of cold water on the characters. I don't know if this was due to the intended younger audiance, or just poor literary skill. The Author tries to keep Katiness innocent, but puts her in an adult world where innocance is not an option. She has to kill for survival; not only her own but that of family and friends. Put in an impossible situation where there is no good outcome, she makes the best of a bad situation. The love triangle in the middle of a fight for survival makes for a great sub narative, but either go with it, or leave it alone. Katiness is 16 when she starts the series, 17 by the start of her second games. She is old enough to kill, but not old enough for sex? Come on people, wake up and smell the ink!
