Second Son: (Jack Reacher Short Story)

Young teenager Jack Reacher already has skills. It's 1974 and the Reacher family have just arrived in Okinawa. Reacher has to deal with a new home, new pressures about school, and helping his father out of a potentially serious jam. Oh, and the neighbourhood bully. Second Son, as with the other Reacher shorts I've read, is a very well thought out story, well delivered, and compelling. Set when Reacher is just 13, he seems to exhibit the same analytical mind we are accustomed to, able to perceive threats quickly, and using logic and reason to figure things out with minimal information. I couldn't help but think these abilities were too far fetched for any other kid, but this is Jack Reacher after all. You get a rare, albeit brief, look at his family dynamic, and his parents and brother were instantly likable, if a little intense. As with all of the Reacher short stories, Second Son left me wanting more. I recommend this to both fans and newbies.

A decent, but short, insight into Reachers formative teenage years. Definitely a single session read and at GBP1.49 for just 44 pages it's not good value, but it will appeal to fans looking for his back story
