5 star 🌟 opening to another promising must read series by a multi-generation writer. Mrs. Rice' novels continue to prove themselves to be those exemplary books 📚 where it's difficult to decide where to, and if, there's a good place in the storyline to put them down. From page 1 of each chapter to the last page of that chapter, and from one chapter to the next, the action and happenings fly off the page; never a dull or sedentary moment to be experienced. Herein we encounter heroines, heroes and villains alike who face adversity and deep personal challenges if they're to accomplish their goals. Our new key 🔑 protagonist seems at this early stage to be somewhat of a combined personality of both Gwen and Thor, with dashes of Kendrick and Reece from the Sorcerer's Ring 💍; wherein this time we get not only a look into the trials of following the path of one's destiny, but also a look into trials and hardship faced by those born more to privilege than poverty. This makes for pleasant empathy and reading, a welcome change from the more regularly seen difficulties of rising to one's destiny from the more impoverished social positions. Hats 🎩 off Mrs. Rice, can't wait for Book 2!

As others on Goodreads have said, I really hope this was an unedited, pre-release version or something, because it just wasn't good at all. No wonder it was free on Google Play... Poor continuity with factual/situational information. Repeated adjectives and adverbs within close proximity to each other. Unexpressive word choices. Terribly boring characters. I was literally shaking my head as I was reading certain parts, disappointed at how cliche, silly, and unimaginative certain parts were. If you really like fantasy stories, don't let this book ruin the genre for you.

Have made it to book 5 in this series. Lots of grammatical errors, plot holes and sometimes using other characters names plus the books get more expensive as you read more. That said they are ok reads. Fast page turners. Another thing I somewhat dislike is all the dramatic buildups. Seems like every chapter the main character just knows they "are going they to die" or "be in the fight of their life" or " be torn limb from limb". That may be just me. I liked them as I was sick for 9 days and they killed time
