Mister Dent
Higurashi: When They Cry was a massively successful Visual Novel, which blasted Ryukishi07, an Indie game developer, into anime mainstream. It was adapted into a long-running manga which ran in several high profile Square-Enix magazines, an anime sprawling two seasons and many OVAs, two live-action theatrical films, a radio drama, and even a Stage Play. Despite the fact that Higurashi ended in 2006, fans clamored for more. In 2007, Ryukishi released a sequel, Umineko: When They Cry, his magnum opus. The mystery here is mind-blowing. The characters are all perfectly developed throughout the series, even though there appear to be so many. Kei Natsumi's artwork is fantastic, and blends the original Visual Novel's art style with a more modern shounen manga look. The adaptation from VN to manga is superb, and it reads extremely naturally, and flows really well. If you like mystery, or fantasy, or are just looking for another sprawling epic, look no further. Umineko beckons.
