About this ebook

Matthew Cuthbert, an elderly bachelor, and his spinster sister, Marilla, want to adopt a sturdy little boy to help with chores on their Prince Edward Island farm. The orphanage mistakenly sends a girl. Anne Shirley is a romantic, mischievous redhead desperate for a home and a family. She is also afflicted with an exhausting habit: she cannot stop talking. Her vivid imagination causes her to encounter one mishap after another. Loyal and kindhearted, however, Anne is soon accepted as a "kindred spirit" to Matthew and Marilla and grows up a spirited and intelligent young woman.

Anne awakens the wide-eyed dreamer in all of us. I love the way this book is spilling with beauty, humor, wonder,"queerness" and character from the very first page. It is evident how skillful L. M. Montgomery paints a personality so vivid, so real in Anne that "you feel that she is there with you" in every conversation. The book's pages are always spilling with imagination, and it is endearing how she makes a life-changing mark on the people around her, especially her two beloved foster parents Marilla and Matthew, the elder siblings who adopted her by mistake. It is fascinating how Anne's bubbly voice resonates in the room while you're reading. She's bound to make you laugh with her and cry with her. The story unfolds in such a sweet manner... like the coming of spring. Perfect to read on a summer night or sitting back one afternoon while the rain pours outside with a cup of tea and some cookies. Haha This book is for the free-spirited, hopeless romantic, and any other avid reader out there. So sit back, relax, and let yourself be taken into Anne's world. By the way, Anne's tale is told in FOUR books. I'm telling you now cause soon enough you'll be dying to read them. Enjoy!

I love this book- this was probably my tenth reread. The characters and the setting are brought to life so exquisitely. The story itself is five stars. The missing star is for the quality of this edition. It is a scanned edition. There are quite a few typos - Marilla especially suffers being rendered as manila, manla, marlla, etc. - as well as random characters or blank spaces inserted. But I like that the illustrations are included.

I have always admired Anne Shirley. As a girl with red hair myself, I often dont find heroines like her in stories, witty, imaginative and with romantic notions. Anne has been my kinder spirit captured on film and to actually read her, gives me more insight into a girl who, is much like myself...freckled with red hair and a wild imagination. Anne is a heroin in the most romantic way possible and will warm your heart to know such a person. She has warmed mine and as a kinder red I say give her a read.
