This is a "missing manual" for the mind, explaining very clear practical techniques for relating to your emotions and mental states. A lot of the ideas and techniques come from Buddhism but Meng comes at it from a very instrumental science and engineering angle. As an engineer, I found that refreshing, useful, and relatively easy to swallow. NB: for actually practicing the meditation techniques, I personally have a much easier time using a guided meditation smartphone app (Headspace is the one I've been using). But this book fills in a lot of the background and explanation that I also crave.

Very superficial and the author keeps repeating himself but lacks practical tips on how to actually be happy. Richard Carlson's "Don't sweat the small stuff" is a much better read; every chapter draws on relatable every day experience that really helps readers reflect deep within themselves to find the heart felt enlightment of joy.

I have been practicing the mindfulness techniques and have noticed an inner change for the better.Recently, situations in life that normally would have annoyed or infuriated me are defused more quickly or prevented altogether. Meditation will become a permanent part of my life. Many thanks to Chade-Meng Tan for writing such an important, perspective changing book.
