About this ebook

The “fascinating” #1 New York Times bestseller that awakened the world to the destruction of American Indians in the nineteenth-century West (The Wall Street Journal).
First published in 1970, Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee generated shockwaves with its frank and heartbreaking depiction of the systematic annihilation of American Indian tribes across the western frontier. In this nonfiction account, Dee Brown focuses on the betrayals, battles, and massacres suffered by American Indians between 1860 and 1890. He tells of the many tribes and their renowned chiefs—from Geronimo to Red Cloud, Sitting Bull to Crazy Horse—who struggled to combat the destruction of their people and culture. Forcefully written and meticulously researched, Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee inspired a generation to take a second look at how the West was won. This ebook features an illustrated biography of Dee Brown including rare photos from the author’s personal collection.

This was a book that I could not wait to see what was on the next page. Dee Brown has written many great books but this puts the reader into the landscape of the Native American during the times of westward expansion and manifest destiny like few other books can. While reading, one can see how the thought process of the U.S. Government and the white settlers worked on their relationships with several native tribes and how these two opposite viewpoints clashed in so many ways. The narrative is easy to follow even when Brown is covering several different events, tribes, or groups of whites. It gives a thorough historical look at the time and events that shaped the lands of the Midwest and beyond from the 1800's until today.

I liked this book the first time I read it and I still like it to this day. Dee Brown gives a view of the west from the Natives of the Land and not the view that was taught to me in school. Would like to see this as part of the any Class that deals w/the American West. I have read several of Dee Brown's books and have been inspired to do further research on items that Mr. Brown uses with the story.

So sad that the true and real american citizens were forced out the way they were. The native american indian was made out to the public as murderous and cruel barbarians but in reality they really only wanted to live in peace. Dee Browns depiction of their injustice is commendable. A must read for history buffs.
