At the time of writing I'm sure that Holmes' methods of investigation were shockingly cutting edge although today's reader may find the plotting and Holmes' techniques a bit simplistic. This is definitely compensated by glimpses of keen wit and drawing room humour. The slow unveiling of the title character's idiocincracies, strengths, and surprisingly modern philosophies add enormously to each of the stories. Lots of historical fun.

12 of Holmes' interesting mysteries as told by his friend and colleague, Dr. Watson. There are a few misspellings and misplaced punctuation due to the imperfections of the OCR technology, but they do not interfere with understanding the text. I have known of Doyle's character, Sherlock Holmes, since childhood but had never actually read the stories. Now that I have, I am eager to read more.

The writing is superb, it's this free book format that is the problem, it doesn't work! I can only access a few pages to read then it just stops. Useless.

About the author
Scottish-born writer Arthur Conan Doyle is forever associated with his world-famous creation—erudite London detective Sherlock Holmes. A physician by training, Conan Doyle began penning fiction in earnest during the 1880s, eventually garnering attention with A Study in Scarlet, the first novel to feature the uncannily perceptive Holmes. Although Conan Doyle wrote extensively outside of the Holmes series, including the adventure book The Lost World, his fame remains closely tied to the beloved sleuth.
