DAY TWO: THE WISE MAN’S FEAR

“There are three things all wise men fear: the sea in storm, a night with no moon, and the anger of a gentle man.”

My name is Kvothe. You may have heard of me.

So begins a tale told from his own point of view—a story unequaled in fantasy literature. Now in The Wise Man’s Fear, Day Two of The Kingkiller Chronicle, Kvothe takes his first steps on the path of the hero and learns how difficult life can be when a man becomes a legend in his own time.

Praise for The Kingkiller Chronicle:

“The best epic fantasy I read last year.... He’s bloody good, this Rothfuss guy.”
George R. R. Martin, New York Times-bestselling author of A Song of Ice and Fire

“Rothfuss has real talent, and his tale of Kvothe is deep and intricate and wondrous.”
Terry Brooks, New York Times-bestselling author of Shannara

"It is a rare and great pleasure to find a fantasist writing...with true music in the words."
Ursula K. Le Guin, award-winning author of Earthsea

"The characters are real and the magic is true.”
Robin Hobb, New York Times-bestselling author of Assassin’s Apprentice

"Masterful.... There is a beauty to Pat's writing that defies description."
Brandon Sanderson, New York Times-bestselling author of Mistborn

This book was meandering and drawn out, there were positive points but too much fat needing to be trimmed. I found myself skipping entire pages where Kvothe was going into detail about the decoration and carpeting and buildings in every town he went to, if he's telling his story to the Chronicler to be written down it seems odd he would describe every minute and mundane detail. Could just be me of course. It grew tiresome reading about his never ending back and forth with Denna, a couple thousand pages later (including the first book) and still nothing there. Also his never ending problems/non problems with tuition. I have a feeling his getting kicked out of the university will be as boring as making Hemme mad for the hundredth time but who knows.

Never have I been so immersed into the story an life of an individual as I have in reading this book. Written so gloriously to easily unlock the imagination an bring you into Kvothe's world. It's like you were there for every adventure, sitting on his shoulder or in his head as you feel and experience it as it were yourself. Great story never dragged out or too much time spent at any one thing, it's a crafted work of art, time can't speed by quick enough to get the third book released.

I really like this series. After reading other comments, I agree it didn't move the plot along as much as I would have liked. I didn't get any missing bits. I might reread to make sure. At times it seems to skip, but rotating my Gpad 7.0 (unsure of android version) causes the book to reload the exact spot. I have to move a page farther at most but it continues right along. I don't think I had missing chapters like some said. Weird. I couldn't imagine having to wait four years for the next book to come out.
