About this ebook

"Treasury of the True Dharma Eye (Shobo Genzo, in Japanese) is a monumental work, considered to be one of the profoundest expressions of Zen wisdom ever put on paper, and also the most outstanding literary and philosophical work of Japan. It is a collection of essays by Eihei Dogen (1200--1253), founder of Zen's Soto school."--Google books.

This review is of the free sample only. It is entirely useless as it consists only of introductory material, thereby making an assessment of the quality of the actual translation impossible. I do not intend to spend a large sum on the entire work without being able to compare the quality of the actual translation of Dogen's writing with that of other translations. It would be a better idea to provide as a sample the text on Uji, "The Time Being", as then direct comparisons could easily be made not only with the Shasta Abbey translation by Rev. Nearman, but also with the extract published in "The Three Pillars of Zen", by Roshi Kapleau. Sadly, without any sample of the translated material at all the sample is utterly useless for the purpose of assessing the full work.
