This is a great book if you want to think about deep topics, such as why do we design (and play) games, what is the role of games in our civilizations, etc. It should be read by every game designer, at some (early) point in her career. At the same time, the book has very little practical insight about what it takes to build a good game. If you're looking for a book that teaches *how* to build a game, this isn't it.
