The Shadow of the Wind

A very captivating mystery...it definitely held my attention and kept me reading with curiosity. The story is very well thought out and weaves together well in its conclusion.

A wonderful enigmatic story covering a number of themes. The writer tries to form a little more poetic sentences then modern vernacular speech and thought patterns. A good inspiration for the artistic view of authorship. It is funny to mention however that the author views his works as a product merely for his audience where I would have to disagree with part of that idea. The author can get just as much out of aspiring to write a novel as much as the audience reading it. "For what would an artist be, if not to aspire." Kevin W. Clark. <- I just made that up now.

This excellent multi-dimensional mystery is well worth powering through! At points, the complexity of the story and the flowery language, as well as the deliberate facade of Fermin (best supporting character,) left me exhausted and frustrated to get back to the primary mystery of the illusive, Julian Carax. In hindsight, I understand & can revel in the completion of this amazing tale that breathlessly flings wrenches into solving the Carax mystery, creating confusion by introducing colorful characters, just when I was desperate for answers, perhaps even just one answer or sub-plot resolved. But no! This novel peaks interest, & then twists the corkscrew to plunge deeper into a much greater "plot abyss." Thankfully, our author is not a sadist! The reader is rewarded with many satisfying answers and surprising twists. Gratefully, all confusion is resolved, and the unraveling of this novel is deftly sewed up, in an ingenious, straightforward fashion, complete with bows and cherries on top. A triumph is experienced, at the conclusion of this unique & spectacular novel!
