About the author

Beverly Hall, PhD, RN, FAAN, Professor Emeritus, University of Texas at Austin, is a nurse and a medical sociologist who has been counseling persons with serious diagnosis for almost 20 years. Acquiring the essential information for this book began in 1983 when she was diagnosed with a fulminating cancer that left her with a 5% five year life expectancy. After recovering her own health, she authored a survivor’s guide that has been snowballed through mail, email, clinics, and support groups to thousands of patients. She has written more than 70 articles and books in the area of health, health promotion, and healing, and for years has presented university classes, lectures, and workshops on various topics of health, self-care and alternative care.
