About this ebook

Bronte’s novel about a shy, quiet governess who becomes a tutor in a great house and falls in love with its lonely and mysterious master is one of the great classics of English literature. Unique in its attention to the thoughts and feelings of a female protagonist, Jane Eyre was ahead of its time as a proto-feminist text. When it was published in 1847, however, Bronte was attacked by critics for what they felt was anti-Christian sentiment in her unflinching critique of the oppressions of Victorian society.

Now here is a book i never want to read again. That last sentence Jane says dear reader...... I just can't. I was holding so much hope for the two that my heart broke in to peices at that statement. It's a great book indeed and I also agree that it was written ahead of it's time. That was courage right there. I loved every minute of it but to pritect my heart i have my copy buried deep in my boxes.

I recently read this story in my AP English class and i'll be honest, I stopped reading after Chapter 19. This book has a great moral and an everlasting love story but it took way too long to get to those main points. Written during the Victorian Times, it is very descriptive with detail along with its Victorian language but the detail seems to never end. I got bored and uninterested so I just decided to watch the movie which is able to sum it up in two hours rather than 500 pages. All in all it still is a great novel with a tragic twist. I only reccomend this book to people who love passing "a lot" of time and is capable of the patience while reading this book.

After watching the most recent adaption of this story on TV I just knew I had to read the book; the book version is always better. I wasn't disappointed either. I was feeling really low prior to reading this. However, I was drawn in as I saw God's hand throughout the whole story. It has rekindled my faith and hope in the sovereign hand of God. Fictional this story may be, yet its realism will touch the core of your innermost being. Readers beware, although it's worth the read, it'll drag at times! #JaneEyre

About the author

The eldest of the Bronte sisters, Charlotte worked as a governess and submitted her works under a man’s name in order to be published. She eventually travelled to London and revealed her true identity to her publisher, and thus began friendships with many of the celebrated literary talents of the day. Bronte published three well-received novels before her death in 1855 at the age of 38.
