About this ebook

King's highly acclaimed novel, now with a stunning new cover look.

WHAT IF you could go back in time and change the course of history? WHAT IF the watershed moment you could change was the JFK assassination? 11.22.63, the date that Kennedy was shot - unless . . .

King takes his protagonist Jake Epping, a high school English teacher from Lisbon Falls, Maine, 2011, on a fascinating journey back to 1958 - from a world of mobile phones and iPods to a new world of Elvis and JFK, of Plymouth Fury cars and Lindy Hopping, of a troubled loner named Lee Harvey Oswald and a beautiful high school librarian named Sadie Dunhill, who becomes the love of Jake's life - a life that transgresses all the normal rules of time.

With extraordinary imaginative power, King weaves the social, political and popular culture of his baby-boom American generation into a devastating exercise in escalating suspense.

The idea and use of the JFK assassination as a basis for a fictional novel seemed very intriguing to me and I had no hesitation in using some of my free credit from the purchase of my Nexus 7 to buy the book. The book itself is a delight to read. Whilst I agree that there is a fair amount of waffle in the mid-section of the book, this only increases the time spent reading it; and you won't want to put it down! Buy it! You will learn many things about JFK and LHO that will make you yearn for more!

The first few chapters are fantastic, the last chapter is also really good. The bulk of the book though is long, repetitive and sometimes boring. To be fair I often find this with SK books, that he just waffles on and on, could have easily dropped a few 100 pages without any negative impact on the story. The ending and conclusion is good but is also very short, it literally felt that I had to read this whole book for a very short last chapter. I've much rather of had less waffle about his life in the past, which he seems to just do the same thing over and over, and have a much longer last chapter. It was hard to decide between 2 or 3 stars for the above reasons but decided to give it 3 as I would still say to give it a read, just be prepared for the long slog in the middle.

The book was enjoyable and the topic enganging. It's clear that a great deal of research went into it but I can't help but feel that something is amiss. I'm not a 'die hard' King fan, in fact the only other title I've read of his is Needful Things, so it has nothing to do with expectations. I can't put my finger on it...
