Tara Westover grew up preparing for the end of the world. She was never put in school, never taken to the doctor. She did not even have a birth certificate until she was nine years old.

At sixteen, to escape her father's radicalism and a violent older brother, Tara left home. What followed was a struggle for self-invention, a journey that gets to the heart of what an education is and what it offers: the perspective to see one's life through new eyes, and the will to change it.

'It will make your heart soar' Guardian
'Jaw-dropping and inspiring, everyone should read this book' Stylist
'Absolutely superb . . . so gripping I could hardly breathe' Sophie Hannah

Absolutely brilliant. Heard Tara speak in an interview on an Irish radio station I don't usually listen to and her voice just made me want to know her story. Finished the ebook in a few days and the saying that truth is sometimes stranger than fiction is entirely apt. You are transported into Bucks Peak and everywhere else Tara is and I hope she writes more books.

This book is absolutely amazing. Every emotion this woman experinced jumps from each page. Her style of writing is refreshing and gripped me completely. Tara Westover is an inspiration, especially to those who think they can't remake themesleves because this lady is proof of that. I do hope in future she will bring another book out. I wanted to know more about her family and her life and was sad that the book came to an end. Amazing and very insightful book.

An education in the life of others. I was fascinated by the story told by Tara, some would believe her and some would not but knowing my life growing up I understood the struggles she faced. Everyone has a different store growing up and I was glad that I had read this story this one. Well worth the read and no judgement required. Everyone is different especially if you are dealing with people with untreated mental illness, it can destroy families.
