About this ebook

A gorgeously illustrated anniversary edition of the book that launched the epic Farseer Trilogy, praised by George R. R. Martin as “fantasy as it ought to be written” and Lin-Manuel Miranda as “an incredible series,” featuring a new foreword by Robin Hobb and ten illustrations.

Twenty-five years ago, Robin Hobb’s first novel featuring FitzChivalry Farseer and his mysterious, often maddening friend the Fool struck like a bolt of brilliant lightning. Thus began a beloved saga spanning multiple series, full of adventure, magic, and sinister plots. To celebrate a quarter-century of wonder, this special edition presents a modern classic as it’s never been seen before, with ten beautiful illustrations by Magali Villeneuve.

Young Fitz is the bastard son of the noble Prince Chivalry, raised in the shadow of the royal court by his father’s gruff stableman. He is treated as an outcast by all the royalty except the devious King Shrewd, who has him secretly tutored in the arts of the assassin. For in Fitz’s blood runs the magic Skill—and the darker knowledge of a child raised with the stable hounds and rejected by his family.

As barbarous raiders ravage the coasts, Fitz is growing to manhood. Soon he will face his first dangerous, soul-shattering mission. And though some regard him as a threat to the throne, he may just be the key to the survival of the kingdom.

Praise for Robin Hobb and Assassin’s Apprentice

“Fantasy as it ought to be written . . . Robin Hobb’s books are diamonds in a sea of zircons.”—George R. R. Martin

“A gleaming debut in the crowded field of epic fantasies . . . a delightful take on the powers and politics behind the throne.”Publishers Weekly

“This is the kind of book you fall into, and start reading slower as you get to the end, because you don’t want it to be over.”—Steven Brust

A very long book where nothing happens. I hated it. I made the mistake of reading this trilogy and i really want that time back. How on earth can you put the word assassin in the title when hardly anyone gets killed. I kept hoping the books would get better but every book is worse than the last. who would have thought practice could decrease an authors abilities. For those of you looking for a fun read look elsewhere. Those of you more concerned with human interaction those events are also usually very very slow and in the end always externally disappointing. To top it off add in a terrible magic system. I recommend spending money on something else.

Its easy to read , but once you think about the storyline and the world its set in, it gets a bit dull and confusing. The book is 90% deepressing relationship drama...and 10% magical foreshadowing. and NOTHING happens. His first assassinations are blurrs compared to all of the pointless soap opera filler. It wouldnt even be that bad if it made sense. The Skill is basically telepathy...but its apparently alright to enter a human mind but not an animals..? Fitz can "repel" people but thats not what Skill is...so whats "repelling"? The Skill isnt some secret yet NOBODY wants anything to do with it? The Raiders are clearly the bad guys for 90% of the book...yet only Verity is doing anything to stop them. You get a surprise betrayal with no foreshadowing at the end....yet all is forgiven in a giant confusing cluster f#%=. The "adventure" is Fitz traveling around the castle. Its a book with magic and violence..yet the best parts are when Fitz talks to The Fool.

Personally, I cannot imagine how a book about a young assassin, who lives in times of turmoil and faces soulless monstrosities could be so incredibly boring. I don't know if it's the way the book is written. The reminiscing of an old man, as told through the eyes of a young man, written in the first person, by a female author... (Shakes head) but I was never quite able to get interested. I tried! I kept thinking the reviews are amazing, what am I missing?? I still don't know. Sighs.
