I've read a few books like this and, aside from the short stories of Wernher von Braun, nothing comes close. This book takes you to Mars and into the future on a ship of scientific evidence and verifiable research as opposed to laser gun fights with alien zombies. It challenges the reader to think like an astronaut in both the mundane tasks as well as the "rocket scientist" ones . But most of all it shows the courage and dedication that's required to have a successful space program, and the potential for such a program to redefine mankind’s image of himself. It is truly a "love letter to science" p.s. You'll have difficulty sleeping until you completely finish this book.

Fantastic story that took me and did not let go. Honestly, I did not sleep much last night. Basic story: Man is left on Mars, fixes ridiculous many faults and ... sorry telling you more about the story would spoil the fun for you. Best read in a while.

changed my life.... read it in just one day. just perfect not reading it would be a huge mistake!! perfect mixture of humour,drama, action and whatever you like. counting days till the movie starts, will be great if it is just half as good as the book!!

Seither widmet er sich ganz dem Schreiben und beschäftigt sich in seiner Freizeit mit Physik, Mechanik und der Geschichte der bemannten Raumfahrt – Themen, die sich auch immer wieder in seinen Romanen finden. Sein Debüt Der Marsianer wurde von Starregisseur Ridley Scott brillant verfilmt.
