About this ebook

The second book in the NYT bestselling Expanse series, Caliban's War shows a solar system on the brink of war, and the only hope of peace rests on James Holden and the crew of the Rocinante's shoulders. Now a Prime Original series.

HUGO AWARD WINNER FOR BEST SERIES

We are not alone.

On Ganymede, breadbasket of the outer planets, a Martian marine watches as her platoon is slaughtered by a monstrous supersoldier. On Earth, a high-level politician struggles to prevent interplanetary war from reigniting. And on Venus, an alien protomolecule has overrun the planet, wreaking massive, mysterious changes and threatening to spread out into the solar system.

In the vast wilderness of space, James Holden and the crew of the Rocinante have been keeping the peace for the Outer Planets Alliance. When they agree to help a scientist search war-torn Ganymede for a missing child, the future of humanity rests on whether a single ship can prevent an alien invasion that may have already begun . . .

This book is very entertaining. Really fleshes out the world they have built with more insight into Martian and Earth politics, as well as 2 new female perspectives. With the addition of ever more characters this series becomes more and more like Game of Thrones, however the difference is Corey's characters inevitably all come together by the end of the book. Interested to see if that trend will continue. This series hooked me with a discount on the first book, now I'm wondering if I can financially sustain buying each subsequent book in this fairly large series for $10 a pop.

If I take both Leviathan Wakes and Caliban's War together, I would give them 9 stars, with the 9th star being in a state of quantum flux between them. The Expanse is just a fun, engaging read. It seems hollowed out asteroids are all the rage nowadays, and that's fine with me. With the Expanse, and forgive me for speaking of them as a whole, but I am, we're given a plausible near-ish future in which we're seeing the strains of an interplanetary system. I like how we're given a sense of the manner in which these lengthy transit times impact relations of the various factions. Most certainly recommend this series.

Read all three. This second in the series introduces several new also great characters, brings in political maneuvering (actually intriguing), military battles and big plot twists...great fun and found myself trying to sneak in a few more chapters every time....so fantastic to read some sci fi that takes me away and doesn't disappoint for a second.
