I didn't much care for Dexter's voice, and as most of the book is 1st person voice over, that led to some issues. He called himself charming but I only found him to be awkward. Don't know if that's the writing or unreliable narrator. Most of the plot seemed to be propelled by dreams and luck. I don't mind the dreams in some stories, but in a crime mystery novel, I'd like some actual sleuthing done.

I watched the show and was a little put off because I thought the book would be the same and I was very happily wrong. Its a good ready even if you watched the show, and if you haven't its still a great book.

I enjoyed the beginning of the book and was excited to see how the original Dexter would be... but in the end, the show's plot was 100% more engaging.
