Do these striking parallels mean that today’s liberals are genocidal maniacs, intent on conquering the world and imposing a new racial order? Not at all. Yet it is hard to deny that modern progressivism and classical fascism shared the same intellectual roots. We often forget, for example, that Mussolini and Hitler had many admirers in the United States. W.E.B. Du Bois was inspired by Hitler's Germany, and Irving Berlin praised Mussolini in song. Many fascist tenets were espoused by American progressives like John Dewey and Woodrow Wilson, and FDR incorporated fascist policies in the New Deal.
Fascism was an international movement that appeared in different forms in different countries, depending on the vagaries of national culture and temperament. In Germany, fascism appeared as genocidal racist nationalism. In America, it took a “friendlier,” more liberal form. The modern heirs of this “friendly fascist” tradition include the New York Times, the Democratic Party, the Ivy League professoriate, and the liberals of Hollywood. The quintessential Liberal Fascist isn't an SS storm trooper; it is a female grade school teacher with an education degree from Brown or Swarthmore.

"Liberal Fascism" will resound with every anti-totalitarian Democrat, Republican, or Independent who has ever been called "fascist" or "Nazi" by persons on the left. JONAH GOLDBERG's book subtitled, "The secret history of the American Left" is a moderate but effective exposition of the history of the so-called progressive movement that has given us several presidents. Goldberg is a non-violent conserative gladiator who runs the sword of his penetrating analyses through the combative arguments and myths of America's liberals. I would like to tell Mr. Goldberg, "Jonah, you have written a whale of a book!"

The writer tries to attribute Nazis to progressivism but fails because of they lack an understanding of history. Read up on Hitler's meeting with business aristocrats or the famous night of long knives im Germany and you'll quickly realize that Hitler was never even close to being left leaning. Much like how the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (North Korea) is not a democracy or a republic, the national socialist party (Nazis) were not socialist. Just because you call yourself something doesn't mean thats actually what you are. Actions speak louder than words.

I had high hopes for this book. Unfortunately, this is such an unbelievable piece of crap, its almost unimaginable that it got published. This guy tries to link Fascism with liberalism, without ever addressing how that reconciles with Fascism's monarchist/militarist origins in the German revolution of 1848, and Bismark's subsequent ascendancy to Prime Minister. It just seems like this guy wants to call liberals names without any real substance behind it.
