About the author

Sófocles (495 a.C. - 406 a.C.) nasceu e morreu em Atenas, na Grécia, e foi um dos maiores intelectuais da antigüidade clássica. Autor prolífico e consagrado em seu tempo, produziu cerca de 120 peças das quais restaram conservadas apenas sete, entre as quais, Antígona, Ajax, Electra e Édipo Rei, talvez a mais célebre de todas as tragédias.
