About this app

SMS Backup & Restore is an app that backs up (creates a copy of) SMS & MMS messages and call logs currently available on the phone. It can also restore messages and call logs from already existing backups.

Note: This app requires existing backups to be able to restore call logs and messages. It cannot recover anything without existing backups.

For whatever reason, after I backed up and restored, I now have three copies of each text. Please add a duplicate-removing feature. Also, when doing a Google security checkup, Google recommended removing access to SMS Backup and Restore because it's "not a trusted app." I dismissed this and checked to see if it's still I'm the Play Store, which it is, so I'm confused about the alert.

So far this app seems to work great to back up my texts. The only problem is that the file it makes is enormous because I have about 5 years worth of texts. It would be nice if it could make a folder on drive and then create one data file per conversation. Even better if it could upload images and attachments separately. Five stars for sure then.

You can use a date filter so newer backups only contain messages after a certain date. That way newer backups will be much smaller. You can still keep older backups separately in the cloud if you need to restore them.

*** REVIEW CHANGED! 2025-03: I still use this app, but today it served up an ADVERT that was a link to a very suspicious site, and it looked like an app button. BEWARE OF THIS. *** OLD RV: I use it every time I upgrade cyanogenmod.. and it works every time. I have tons and tons of SMS messages and don't throw them away, and it restores the lot!! Be warned: It backs up to internal, so be sure to run a Titanium backup, THEN back up your SD card to your PC - BEFORE you erase a single thing!!!

What’s new

- Fix for an issue where the app was not detecting itself as the default SMS app during the delete messages process
- Added a label above Ads to identify them more easily so as to prevent users from mistaking them for app functionality
