About this game

Désiré is a poetic point-and-click adventure game in black and white.

When the schoolteacher asks Désiré why he didn't draw the sun like the other pupils, he replies spontaneously: « It's always night in my head. »

Désiré is colour-blind from birth and he will lead you into in world of black and white. He marches on hesitantly, as life never brought him much joy. From a tender age, he is going to meet several characters who will elicit in Désiré intense emotions and alter his vision in surprising ways. Is colour at the end of the road?

The game is, at its core, a critique of the modern world and of the perverting nature of a consumer, profit-obsessed society.

The game contains 4 chapters, 50+ scenes, 40+ characters and a lot of riddles.

« Ah... dear fellow traveller... I am so happy to meet you and to travel with you along this rocky path to let a surprising story unfold. Do not be too quick to judge! At least not before you know how it ends. This story is both rough and delicate... as repulsive as it is endearing... melancholy and joyful... but most of all, it is a tale that is deeply human and profoundly singular. So let me introduce this young, colour blind boy who, from birth, has only ever perceived the world in black and white. Colours, to him, are as abstract as faith to the atheist. Yet, they plagued his dreams, night and day! This boy's name is Désiré and his life path will surely surprise you. But enough chit-chat! Go and find out for yourself... »

Overall, the art and soundtrack was amazing. Note, there are sexual and more serious themes in this. In some parts, there's definitely a lot of dialogue, however, I think it added to the characters. Some of the puzzles were confusing, and the game doesn't let you go forward at times when you don't exhaust all dialogue. Storyline was good, although it was a little scattered. Ending was a tad bit underwhelming, but I would probably play this again. I also used a walkthrough in some parts too.

Definitely one of the more fulfilling games I've played. There are sexual themes, as stated at the beginning, and a lot of deeper stuff as well. I think the 16+ disclaimer at the start is reasonable. The art style is absolutely beautiful. The music is stunning. It has a lot of French culture, which I love. There was interesting dialogue, and an intriguing storyline. The end was a bit anticlimactic in my opinion, but to each his own. I would play it again just to experience it all one more time.

Dèsirè does a great job making you think, while conveying the common themes of loss and confusion of humanity. However, it does little to ever resolve confusion or tie together plot devices to tell a convincing moral. Though I doubt doing so, was the precise aim of its creator. Rather, it seems to be an excercise in seeking, rather than finding truth and in this pursuit it does fantastically. Where it falls flat is in its frustrating game mechanics and its preachy unskippable dialogue.
