About this app

WatchCheck is an Android app in Material Design to easily measure the precision of mechanical watches.

The speciality of WatchCheck is, that as reference time only precise time sources such as NTP (network time protocol) and GPS are used, but never the imprecise internal clock of your device (mobile phone or tablet). With GPS you can do precise measurings even when there's no data network available, e.g. when you're abroad.

If you worry about the "precise location" right, it is required only for retrieving the accurate reference time via GPS in case you don't have network access.

Good product but: 1. Has not been updated in a long time. Have been getting warning that it was created for old version of Android for a long time. 2. No way to delete a page of measurements. You can delete an individual measurement or the whole watch history but not a page within the history. So there is no way to delete old or irrelevant pages. 3. When switching to a watch it opens the first/oldest page instead of the most recent/current page, so you have to swipe to current page.

People seem to be confused that the app somehow turns your phone into a fully functioning electronic timegrapher that acoustically measures the watch beat, rate, amplitude, etc... That is not what it does. It does however, with an element of human error notwithstanding, provide a free method for you to measure and record the rate at which your timepiece is gaining or losing against a consistent reference time (GPS/time server). Saves you from doing any of the math necessary. Very useful app.

I love the functionality of the app. I cannot support an app that places ads on my lock screen. Ads in the app are ok but, when it's not running and has ads that take over my screen when I unlock the phone, that's a non-starter for me. Programs need support but, this is far too intrusive. Let me know if you decide to not push ads on my phone when I am not using the app.
