About this app

SDR Touch allows connecting hardware SDR receivers to Android via a USB cable. Turn any mobile phone or tablet with USB host/OTG support into a portable software defined radio scanner and a spectrum analyser. Driver support exist for RTL-SDR, NeSDR, SDRplay and HackRF.

Listen and record live over-the-air FM stereo radio stations with RDS, weather reports, emergency stations, taxi traffic, airplane communications, audio of analogue TV broadcasts, HAM radio amateurs, digital broadcasts and many more! Depending on hardware used, radio frequency coverage can span from 20 MHz to 2.2 GHz. SDR Touch demodulates broadcast FM, AM, narrowband FM, upper sideband (USB) and lower sideband (LSB) signals.

The built-in RDS monitor will allow exploring the hidden digital data feed that most commercial FM radio stations broadcast. This includes the station's program type (PTY), country of broadcast (ECC), date and time (CT), unique program identifier (PI), list of alternative frequencies (AF) and advanced statistics about the digital RDS carrier signal.

SDR Touch receives live radio via external USB hardware. The app runs offline and does not require a data plan or an internet connection! Take SDR Touch anywhere and find out what hides in the radio spectrum!

In order to run SDR Touch, you will need to plug your SDR receiver into the Android device using an USB OTG cable.

This is a pretty niche application for those who use SDR. There aren't very many apps for Android but this one is probably the best one. It has the most common features that you would want but these are fairly limited, lacking more advanced features found on PC software. SDR is really served by having more screen space than a phone or even a tablet. This make the app a little fidgety to use like ANY touch app. I think the developer did a very good job overcoming this in the app with very basic buttons that can be hidden. My biggest complaint would be the accuracy of my touch screen. That's not the author's fault. I'm going to find a stylus to use with this! This may seem like "bugs" to some users. For the demo you should allow more time for the panadapter and waterfall. The software isn't very usable without it and hard to test as well. It also works with rtl_tcp servers which is how I use it over my WiFi from my router using OpenWrt is running the server with my radio connected to the USB port. Also this guy has given the SDR community an Android driver that is used by other software. I purchased the "SDR Touch Key" but honestly would like to show the developer more gratitude than that! Thank you for bringing this to my phone! The software has some bugs yes but is still the most functional option for now. Therefor deserving 5 stars for being the best option.

Great app, doesn't work well on the latest Android - disconnects at random. Worked flawlessly on my friend's older tablet. Please fix it! I love this app generally. EDIT: The problem may be the SDRPlay driver. Try this app, if it works, it's great! Update: got a response from the developer about turning off battery saving features. I'll try that. Thanks!

Hello, battery saving features of some devices can prevent the driver app from running properly. I would suggest turning off the battery saving features of your device for the driver app and SDR Touch. You can find information on how to do this for your device online.

I had this application installed on my LG Android tablet for years, but I never fully learned it. In the beginning, I only used it with my Shark SDR-RTL as an FM radio, just for fun. After I rekindled my SW listening hobby, I decided to give it a try. I even bought the SpyVerter up converter. However, other things got in the way and I did not even test it. Now that I have a bit more of free time, I decided to explore SDR again.I tried several Windows SDR applications, each with its own pros and cons. After finding the best working settings for my SDR-RTL+SpyVerter setup, I decided to try again with SDR Touch. Boy! It was not only simpler than I though it would be. I tried it with the up converter, which was a breeze to setup and it worked very well. Looking around the configuration, I found the way to do direct sampling, which means that I do not need the up converter (less drain to the battery). Unfortunately, the upconverter does add a bit of gain as well as some needed filtering to my SDR-RTL dongle. I am still discovering this app, but I am very happy with it, so far.
