About this movie

From director Joe Wright comes “Pan,” a live-action feature presenting a wholly original adventure about the beginnings of the beloved characters created by J.M. Barrie. Peter is a mischievous 12-year-old boy with an irrepressible rebellious streak, but in the bleak London orphanage where he has lived his whole life those qualities do not exactly fly. Then one incredible night, Peter is whisked away from the orphanage and spirited off to a fantastical world of pirates, warriors and fairies called Neverland. There, he finds amazing adventures and fights life-or-death battles while trying to uncover the secret of his mother, who left him at the orphanage so long ago, and his rightful place in this magical land. Teamed with the warrior Tiger Lily and a new friend named James Hook, Peter must defeat the ruthless pirate Blackbeard to save Neverland and discover his true destiny—to become the hero who will forever be known as Peter Pan.

Of course the plot has been done a great deal. A chosen one who refuses to believe they are the chosen one, then ends up accepting it just in time to save the day. That being said, it wasn't as awful as I'd anticipated from the trailer. Yes, the costumes and colors were pretty painful and made me grimace often. Yes, their Captain Hook was really more of a Han Solo archetype and their Blackbeard was much more of Captain Hook than the one they actually pegged the name onto, and yes, this Captain Hook had a strange attachment to bustles and feathers in his uniform. That aside, it could have been a good film had they not called the place Neverland and left the whole Peter Pan thing out of it, because this isn't Neverland and none of these characters are their namesakes. Also, I'm not entirely sure, but I think that the Natives turned into colored chalk dust when they died. It was a bit confusing. All in all, if you aren't a die-hard Peter Pan fan, you might like this. If you are, then you'll probably be too busy cringing at what they did to your favorite characters.

I actually liked it. I heard so many bad reviews I almost didn't watch it but I'm glad I did. There's one song in there that is absolutely horrible but that's pretty much the only thing I can't get passed. Well, that and Hugh Jackmans hair. I was hoping for a sequel but with the reviews I doubt there will be one. It just left so much hanging because there was supposed to be another one.

Don't see this movie. Jackman struts around like a cartoon villian in a different movie from, everyone else around him. The actor playing hook has an over-worked affectation that makes everything he says sound like a tag for the trailer. And this movie commits the biggest crime against Nirvana on record. Just don't watch it.
