About this movie

See the original theatrical version of the film as it was initially released in theaters. A massive alien presence of enormous power enters Federation space destroying three powerful Klingon cruisers and neutralizing everything in its path. As it heads towards Earth, Admiral James T. Kirk returns to the helm of an updated U.S.S. Enterprise and sets course to meet the aggressor head-on.

There are several cuts of this movie. Theatrical epic music but something is missing in character.*** special longer version added scenes really help the character development and the music is just as good. ***** directors cut mixed down the music and cut out the sound and scenes from the slv and spead up the pace via some of the worst editing ever. **

I take this movie for what it was....to bridge the gap between the 70s television show and early 80s silver screen. They were able to do things visually that they weren't able to do in the television show. I remember seeing the Enterprises for the first time in that movie and was like WOW!!! It looked like a real ship engine beacons and all. Wasn't a great story but they more than made up for it with the sequel.

The story is actually pretty neat. A crew goes out to investigate an unknown force and finds more and more mystery as they go. The pacing, however, is very slow. Lots of great visuals that take way too long and detract from what is essentially a good story. This from a lifelong Star Trek fan. This one is for fans/completionists only.
