About this movie

WATCHMEN: DIRECTOR'S CUT promises 24 extra minutes of action-packed, effects-laden scenes never before seen in theaters! This multi-layered adventure unfolds as scenes present in the graphic novel finally make the leap to film. A complex, multi-layered mystery adventure, "Watchmen" is set in an alternate 1985 America in which costumed superheroes are part of the fabric of everyday society, and the Doomsday Clock--which charts the USA's tension with the Soviet Union--moves closer to midnight. When one of his former colleagues is murdered, the masked vigilante Rorschach sets out to uncover a plot to kill all past and present superheroes. As he reconnects with his former crime-fighting legion--a disbanded group of retired superheroes, only one of whom has true powers--Rorschach glimpses a wide-ranging and disturbing conspiracy with links to their shared past and catastrophic consequences for the future. Their mission is to watch over humanity...but who is watching the Watchmen? MPAA Rating: R © 2009 Warner Bros. Entertainment Inc., Paramount Pictures Corporation and Legendary Pictures. Gritty and well written "super hero" movie. I put super hero in quotes, as most of the characters in this movie are really more like anti-heroes. Well shot, with a good soundtrack and for the most part great casting (silk spectre 2 is rough...) This movie is pretty faithful to the original comic aside from the ending which is different (and makes more sense). Overall this is a well written and acted movie that is fun to watch.

I never saw the theatrical release of this movie, so I don't have the reference of the version touched by a good editor. I only have this "director's vision" version, and it was horrible. I've also never read the graphic novels, and have no desire to after watching this disaster. Mostly, this was three hours of a director showing off what he *could* do and forgetting that he was supposed to be telling a story.

I've always been dissatisfied, but overall enjoyed, all other Comic Book Flicks. The lack of physical reality - no blood, no gore, no back - stabbing human element; the political correctness for insuring a PG13 rating to insure maximum money making box office potential. ... Watchmen is the opposite of this. Finally, proactive & raw writing, vision & cinematic presentation unfold; I disnt want it to end! The Super Hero movie for adults. My all-time favorite comic book moving picture.
