About this movie

The Way Back is the critically acclaimed new release from renowned director Peter Weir (Master and Commander, The Truman Show), starring Colin Farrell, Jim Sturgess, Ed Harris, Mark Strong and Saoirse Ronan. Inspired by an incredible true story, this epic film of survival against-the-odds tells the story of a group of seven prisoners who escaped from a Soviet gulag in Stalin-era Russia and walked over 4,000 miles across some of the most unforgiving terrain in the world, crossing the Siberian Arctic, the Gobi desert and the Himalayas before finally arriving in British-ruled India. 2010 Siberian Productions LLC.

Inspired by many polish event(s) / accounts. Politically Correct mise en scene, found even space for some multi-cultural group "working" together in order to survive, (incl north-americans!) this was the only down side to me. Rawicz book is better

The way back tell the story of a group of prisoners in a russian gulag and the epic journey from arctic Siberia across the Gobi desert and over the Himalayas to freedom and redemption. Mostof the characters are political prisoners incarcerated for alledged charges against the corrupt communist regime, apart from the carreer criminal played by Colin Farrell. The stand out performance by Farrell is convincing and totally gripping. Well worth watching for this performance alone.

What an amazing film. It has great acting and the story itself is incredibly inspiring. There's no typecast actors in it, who make every film the same they act in, it's great and a relief from typical Hollywood actors that ruin films now.
