I didn't watch "Rango" until now, and I must say it may now be my favorite animated film I've seen. The film sets off with a "Fear and Loathing" sort of vibe mixed in with "Dead Man", but as it progresses, it begins to draw on many of the classic western tropes, the larger than life villains, the strong but endearing leading lady, and the hapless denizens of the plot's rugged little community on the verge of a world much bigger than themselves. In my opinion, this leaves this movie not just as a great animated film, but a wonderfully constructed western as well. The voice acting is superb, the characters rugged in all of the right ways, and the aesthetic carefully crafted to each character. On the topic of aesthetic, the art direction and the world of Rango are molded together perfectly to have a beautiful blend of rugged west, while still maintaining the relatively consistent design of a world much smaller than ours: a water cooler jug being the reservoir of the town of Dirt's oh so precious water supply, towers built of cans, but I'd let you see some of the more creative ideas for yourselves. In my opinion, whether you like animated films or westerns of old, Rango is a must see.

What would happen if the director of the "Pirates of the Caribbean" decides to get into the world of cartoons and make an animated movie. Well, First off, The story contains a liar revealed plot that is refreshed, thanks to the theme about "finding self identity" and having a protagonist evolving and becoming the hero that he was pretending to be. It's amazing! Not to mention that it has some magnificent craftsmanship with breathtaking imagery, including the visuals. Everything about the animation by I.L.M. (Industrial Lights & Magic) is jaw-dropping and brilliant. It is dazzling with striking detail, moves with splendid & smooth fluidity. The stunning visuals look life-like and authentic. The character designs are fantastic; Each character design represents their personalities. The characters themselves are amazing. Rango is a lost chameleon with an identity crisis and he represents one of the themes of the film, like (who am I). He has some quirky charm to his charisma which makes him very fun to watch. What makes him hilarious is the eccentric and snappy humor that he delivers, and he is flooded with so much personality within his actions. Beans is a no-nonsense desert Iguana that may have a short temper, but she also has a surprisingly great heart. Rattlesnake Jake is an intimidating and thuggish western diamondback rattlesnake that has the soul and heart of a threatening gunslinger. And the main villain of the film is a desert tortoise named Tortoise John. He is the mayor of the town called Dirt. Not to mention that he is a cunning and manipulative schemer. What's amazing about the characters is that the filmmakers have succeeded to create memorable characters with convincing character development, without giving them much depth. & What I really love about this film is the tone of the film. The movie has a beautifully constructed mature tone to create strong tension and deliver sharp witty comedy. The direction by Gore Verbinski contains great timing and artful imagery that is truly effective. The star-studded cast who voiced the characters contributes to the fun entertainment; the powerhouse cast have provided the pitch-perfect voices and splendid voice acting for a fun experience for my ears. Some sounded quirky and bold, some others sound wise, and some sound threatening. Johnny Depp did a first-rate job as Rango, the material that he delivered makes his character very likable and amusing, and every time Rango shouts, he is hilarious. Isla Fisher voices Beans, she did a splendid job of how a western woman is portrayed. Her voice acting is engaging because she knows exactly how to create emotion. Alfred Malino voices Roadkill the nine-banded armadillo. Alfred has that soft gravelly voice to make roadkill sound strong and wise. Bill Nighy voices Rattlesnake Jake. When Bill voices Jake, he sounds menacing, and it creates unsettling tension. Ned Beatty voices Tortoise John, His voice acting makes this character sound laid-back and cool, but in a calculating and strong manner. The film has a well-played screenplay that contains striking passages with incredible imagery. Unlike most animated films with a liar-revealed plot, this one is better than others because what makes it so refreshing is that Gore Verbinski invokes brilliant ideas, compelling themes, and personal undertone for great detail and smart art direction. The music score by Hans Zimmer is top-notch. His dynamic and ambitious score fits the movie's culture, and his score is deeply involved in the storytelling and personality of the film, and his score supports the movie's themes. The score has such a variety of emotion and the instrumentation. For age appropriate content: this film is suitable for kids ages twelve and up due to rude humor, language, action and smoking. In conclusion: When Gore Verbinski goes into the animation genre, the results are marvelous with this extremely witty, beautifully dynamic, and brilliant stunner. called "Rango." Highly Recommended.

Though I wouldn't say that it's a children's film (due to loads of suggestiblce content) it's definitely a masterpiece. It reminds me of The Lone Ranger, and Johnny Depps preformance is both bizarre and humorous in one beautiful combination. The animation almost looks real. I'd say that this is a 2 hours well spent
