About this movie

David Drayton (Thomas Jane) and his young son Billy (Nathan Gamble) are among a large group of terrified townspeople trapped in a local grocery store by a strange, otherworldly mist. David is the first to realize that there are things lurking in the mistÉdeadly, horrifying thingsÉcreatures not of this world. Survival depends on everybody in the store pulling togetherÉbut is that possible, given human nature? As reason crumbles in the face of fear and panic, David begins to wonder what terrifies him more: the monsters in the mistÑor the ones inside the store, the human kind, the people that until now had been his friends and neighbors? In this legendary tale of terror from master storyteller Stephen King, the thin veneer of civilization is stripped away, the masks are discarded, and the true horror is revealed as us.

As with nearly all Stephen King books, don't watch the movie adaptation. They ruin the book. Books are much better. Only King movies worth seeing are Shawshank, Stand By Me (coincidentally from the same book), Shining, and Maximum Overdrive. This movie is ok but the ending will get under your skin.

Loved this movie, much to my surprise. I'm not a big fan of horror flicks, but the interpersonal dynamics really made me hang on. It is an extremely well done example of how people will fall for anything, or anyone, offering them hope when they are terrified or hopeless. The ending is heart wrenching, but that proves the point even more. Bravo, Stephen King! The only reason I didn't give five stars is because of what was in the mist. Not really something I could even begin to believe in. But the actions of those inside the store were the most frightening because they are probably more true to reality, and horrifying, than anything in the mist.

****(SPOILERS)**** The very ending was a horrible letdown and wasted opportunity for a continual sequel. The alternative ending not shown in the theaters where they're still alive and in the jeep continuing driving around in the mist as the movie fades to black was totally awesome, and was in my opinion the right way to go, instead of dad shooting everyone to end their misery, the mist disappears, and the town is saved. SUCH A BIG LETDOWN
