About this movie

Captain Phillips is a multi-layered examination of the 2009 hijacking of the U.S. container ship Maersk Alabama by a crew of Somali pirates. Based on a true story, the film focuses on the Alabama’s commanding officer, Captain Richard Phillips (two-time Academy Award®-winner Tom Hanks, Best Actor, 1993, Philadelphia; Best Actor, 1994, Forrest Gump), and the Somali pirate captain, Muse (Barkhad Abdi), who takes him hostage. The two men are set on an unstoppable collision course when Muse and his crew target Phillips’ unarmed ship; in the ensuing standoff, both men will find themselves at the mercy of forces beyond their control.

I am a retired seafarer(40 years) and have first hand experience of this problem. The Horn of Africa is just one.Nigeria, Malaysia, are other places that you could make movies.but on the whole pretty acurate, but as merchant vessels are not allowed weapons it will continue! The only merchant fleet not harrased happen to be Russian because there is a AK 47 for every one on board. SIMPLE!!!.

This movie was emotional; plain heart-wrenching emotion seeped out of this movie every second. If you're a -stereotypical- man, even you might just have a tear roll down your eyes that you didn't notice until you left or you'll find you've become melancholy and depressed upon finishing the entire film. Of course, Tom Hanks was outstanding, if you didn't catch on, and the rest of the crew were just as good. In particular, everyone... yes, everyone. I can't possibly think of an actor who didn't do amazing in this movie. Even the (SPOILERS HERE) Lady at the end from the Navy; hearing "everything's gonna be ok" again must of *really* helped. You can tell Paul Greengrass directed this because it gets you all in the feels just like his two 'Bourne' movies did. And the length of scenes was just perfect; never will you tire or bore because you're always left falling of the edge of your seat in amazement like a 12 year old who's into drama...

Never have I seen a film with so much action, emotion and thrilling scenes as Captain Phillips. Tom Hanks surely embraces this role as he does all his others, but the emotions and feelings shown in this film could only be exhibited by Tom Hanks. This is truly the best film money can buy and you do not want to miss out on what has to be the greatest film ever made. It brings you so close to the reality of modern day piracy situations and makes you feel as though you are in the film and feeling what the actors are feeling, truly worth the 5 stars and they £11.99 for the hd version! A must have!
