the gore fx in this film are legendary, no computers oh no, real objects made by very talented people, even though we all know they are just FX there is something grotesquely realistic watching latex and rubber stretch twist and split like skin and flesh and blood spurting everywhere by the gallon...this film is testament to the glory days of horror and special FX that computers can never achieve. DO NOT SEE THE REMAKE ITS UTTER RUBBISH!!!

No cgi in this awesome monster movie, creature effects by the talented Rob Bottin have made this movie the timeless horror classic it is. Atmospheric and suspenseful. I have loved this film since I first saw it in the 80's and no other film has come close to it. Genius from the legend that is John Carpenter, check out 'The Fog' with Jamie Lee Curtis too.

always loved it. second only to Alien for me. some scenes showing age, but classic scary soundtrack makes up for the odd iffy effect - but no cgi in those days.........see it
