What's unique about "The Academy" is that it's made like a documentary, with lots of insight on the training and discipline it takes to become an LAPD officer, but also has a fictional story underneath, being Rob deciding to become a police officer after his brother is killed, then being confronted with a similar situation at the end of the movie. I think this would be a fun family movie, but also it could give insight to anyone considering becoming an LAPD officer, the sacrifices demanded and the fulfillment of the job. While there have been many other films on the LAPD Academy, none have given a more detailed story.

A really shrewd insight into the LAPD police academy program. The film engenders feelings of sympathy and tact for those men and women who undergo a militant style training to qualify for admission into LAPD. I really liked the scenes with the firearms instructor. The details clearly come from a writer with real knowledge and experience within the police academy, and the viewer can learn a thing or two about proper pistol firing stance and tazers and weapon safety just like the characters in the movie! Definitely worth a watch!

Where most major motion picture films are lacking, 'The Academy' shines! You won't see any A-list actors or multimillion dollar stunts, but there is a robust amount of art and elegance in the way this film was directed. Highly recommended for film aficionados looking for a change from the normal and mundane. 5 stars!
