About this movie

Unrated and too intense for theaters with more witches, weapons and action! Get ready for a twisted take on the classic tale as Hansel (Jeremy Renner) and Gretel (Gemma Arterton) have turned pro, coping with the trauma of their childhood captivity by slaying witches for hire. But when the seemingly unstoppable bounty hunters meet their match in an enemy so evil, it'll take all their training, weapons and courage to survive. Revenge is sweeter than candy.

Great idea and story, just executed poorly. Weapons design was weak for the heavy guns, crossbow was great though. Makeup and costume design for the troll was awful. Poor dimensions for the body shape, I am still not sure if that was CGI or what. Same for the witch costumes and makeup. I get the rot and decay set in from using black magic part, but then they turned them into the circus side show act at the end. Wait to see it for free if you can!

This was a different take on the classic Hansel and Gretel fairy tale. As the title reads I didn't find it great or utterly disappointing. It could have been better and it could have been a hell of a lot worse, thus it lands smack dab in middle. Currently there are over 300 people that rated this movie 4 or 5 stars. In reading them I found quite a few that read as if the movie is only "okay", some read exactly that. That would be a 3 star rating. DO NOT RATE IF YOU DO NOT KNOW HOW TO USE A RATING SCALE For these reviews to be this lopsided on a such an obviously average film it's no wonder Hollywood continues to churn out drivel continuously.

a tale as old as time? nope. a tale worth telling. maybe. jeremy renner does a great job of being an action hero with a weakness. gemma arterton is easy on the eyes and does a better-than-adequate job in her role. what was lacking was intrigue. at no point are we wondering about outcomes, motives, or the direction of the film. it all plays out they way you would expect. the sequel could do more to layer the plot and involve more than just CGI to move the audience. the actors held up their end of the deal but were bereft a script that could be told sans gratuitous violence.
