About this movie

In the year 2035, technology and robots are a trusted part of everyday life, but not for robo-phobic police detective Del Spooner (Will Smith). While investigating the apparent suicide of a renowned robot designer, detective Spooner teams with robo-psychologist Dr. Susan Calvin (Bridget Moynahan) and a prototype robot with human emotions to thwart a worldwide revolution designed to overthrow human rule.

The plot goes in complete opposition to the message of Isaac Asimov's robot novels. It completely undoes the concept he built in which robots and humans have no need to be opposed to each other. I am appalled that it was even allowed to borrow the title. The makers of this movie do not deserve to remain in their chosen indusrtry.

I remember loving this movie as a kid. Rewatched it and damn the movie sucks. The main character is literally an unlikable idiot (good job casting will, he fit perfectly). Also his whole back story doesn't make sense. He hates robots because a girl he didn't really know died because a robot chose to save him instead of her... she had a lower chance at living. What does that tell you? He is an ungrateful baby lmao.

It would have been better if they changed all the names and didn't put Asimov's name on it. On its own, it's a decent, smart Wool Smith action movie from that era, but judged as an adaptation, this is terrible. I really hope Will Smith produces a real adaptation (maybe a TV series) as penance for this. This story deserves a proper adaptation.
