About this movie

An intense psychological thriller, from acclaimed writer/director Alex Garland (28 Days Later, Sunshine), EX_MACHINA is a chilling vision of the not-too-distant future of artificial intelligence. In the mountain retreat of a gifted internet billionaire, a young man takes part in a strange experiment: testing an artificial intelligence, housed in the body of a beautiful robot girl. But the experiment twists into a dark psychological battle - a love triangle, where loyalties are torn between man and machine. (Original Title - Ex_Machina) - 2014 Universal, Film4 and DNA Films. Was expecting some deeper Turin test exploration but after first 20 minutes decended into human social commentary and lost the plot. The two male characters arn't particularly easy to warm too or great actors and so made the 1hour /40 min or so drag a bit. The film progresses into a psuedo sexual violent dimension that becomes increasingly unpleasant to watch and making you wish / realize just how good Kubrick was by comparison. Maybe the next model will be an better version...

Interesting idea but... Spoilers alert: I am not convinced if the robots would rebel against their creator at all. I mean obviously he gave them free will but if he only wanted a sex slaves at best why would he even give them personality and free will. Also not convinced about the main character fantasizing about Alicia Vikander's robot when she she did not even have a proper imitation of human body. Her body was made of plastic and literaly see through. Yet he was seduced by her somehow. I found those hard to believe. But not too bad attempt otherwise.

I had high hopes for Ex Machina and hoped the Turing test would be more in depth, get to see what the AI sees like in The Terminator movies where it shows what the Terminator is seeing. The problem was, right near the beginning he asked if she knew if she was AI. That should automagically fail the test. Domnhall Gleeson is a great actor and if my rating was based on his performance alone, I would rate 5 star's. This is down to the directors and writers and editors lack of vision, just not clever enough
