About this movie

This groundbreaking cinematic event stars Tom Cruise as Jack Harper, the lone security repairman stationed on a desolate, nearly-ruined future Earth. When he rescues a beautiful stranger from a downed spacecraft, her arrival triggers a nonstop chain of events that forces him to question everything he knows, and leaves humanity's fate in his hands. Academy Award-winner Morgan Freeman joins Cruise in this "visually stunning" (Pete Hammond, Movieline), explosive story from the director of TRON: Legacy and the producer of Rise of the Planet of the Apes.

It's an impressive film with an excellent premise, and some brilliant plot twists. But it's far too crammed to work. To much happens in too short a space; you don't really get to know the characters (even Cruise's character - which you'll understand if you watch it). Perhaps they'll bring out an extended version which would help. Worth a rent

I didn't really feel anything after watching Oblivion. I had an idea as to the direction of the movie after the first 5 minutes *****SPOILER ALERT***** when Jack stated that "we won the war". From then on in I was more interested as to how the film would join the dots together. I was slightly disappointed that there wasn't more of an emphasis on the past to the object. I wanted to know how it came to be and why it was attracted to earth. A cameo from Mr Freeman didn't really add weight to the film. Cruise plays his typical broody action role well. Good use of CGI. Worth a watch if you can get it on NETFLIX (eventually).

I heard that this was a bit of a flop, in any case, I was also a tad put off by Tom Cruise's presence, however, I finally gave in and rented it. Best film rental in ages! Loved it! The setting is truly stunning, and the tech is suitably pleasing for those who like action SciFi films. I would seriously recommend trying it out! Definitely buying it now!
