These notes came out in 1889 and reprinted several times until 1917. Their author was the first chief of the legendary head of the St. Petersburg police detective from 1866 to 1889 years. In fact, Ivan Dmitrievich Putilin created a school of domestic spying. Just wrote in one of his stories: "Shuvalov expressed surprise my abilities, but at the time I myself was pleased and proud of this case, because all searches were made by me only on the basis of logically constructed arguments." Note that it was in 1859, long before the deductive method of Sherlock Holmes.
Based on the book Leonid Yuzefovich wrote stories, which formed the basis for the film "Sleuth Petersburg Police" and the series "Detective Putilin."
